EXPECTATIONS

A

PARTICIPA-

TION: 15%

In addition to the safety rules in the textbook, positive participation and attention in the lab is essential to ensure safety and a positive and respectful learning environment for everyone.  It is everyone’s right and responsibility.  The following 9 items affects your participation percent:

1.

Seating:

Assigned. Stay away from teacher’s work area.  No sitting or writing on desk/table tops.  Do not touch anything that is not yours.

2.

Entering:

Go straight to your seat before bell.  Open textbook and notebook to assignment ready to be corrected.  Always recycle appropriately.

3.

Leaving:

Wait for end of announcements, bell or signal before standing to leave.  Clean the area around you.  Line up your desks neatly.

4.

Distractions:

Rough-housing and distractions such as toys, skateboards, perfumes or strong scents, note passing, electronic devices, cell phones, cards, gum, food and Energy drinks are not permitted.  Individual, unshared H20 bottles are allowed.

5.

Volume:

Low volume talking is acceptable when working on assignments, lab or project group work.  Follow lab procedures safely, pay attention during class instruction and videos.

6.

Personal Needs:

Plan ahead!  Office/locker needs, restroom and H20.  If it’s appropriate after half time, you may be allowed for only 2 minutes. Keep door ajar to come back in unassisted.

7.

Tardiness:

Please have a note from parent, or office excusing late entry. An email from parent is also acceptable.

8.

Absence:

Please have a note or email from parent to me excusing your previous day’s absence.  No excused absence = truancy = ZERO on all work and tests missed in your absence.  The student must be accountable and justify promptly without being reminded, thus, the real world out there!

9.

Materials:

Needed every class:  Science textbook, workbook, notebook/loose-leaf paper, pen, pencil, eraser, ruler.  Discreetly borrow from peers, not from me.

B

HOMEWORK:  35%

The Agenda has been provided to cover the whole semester.  The agenda tasks are also written on the white board.  Class/homework consists of taking all notes from overhead and white board, defining all bold terms as they appear in the chapter and following agenda. Some days, you can be expected to complete the tasks as homework.  The Agenda allows you to work ahead.  Always have the phone number of a peer in case you are absent without your agenda.  Study and review your notes every night.  *** Big projects must make it to school on due date or before, with or without you and/or your partners. ***

C

ORGANISATION: 15%

All Units end with a Notebook Check to verify that all your work is in chronological order and completed.  NBC can also be done after chapters.

D

TESTS/

QUIZZES: 35%

All Chapters end with a quiz; all Units end with a test.  Additionally, there may be surprise quizzes to ensure that certain concepts are understood.  Study and review your notes every night.

In order to assist the school in going “paperless,” I will share your email with office (e-Newsletter) and library. If parent objects to this, please email me at ndupuis@sd61.bc.ca.  Thank you.
